Custom QR codes that still scan
A branded QR code with your logo and colors gets more scans than a plain black square, but only if phones can read it. Every design option here was tested by decoding the downloaded codes with QR reading software.
When you add a logo, the generator automatically switches to the highest error correction level (H), which lets the code recover from about 30% of it being covered. Keep the logo at about a third of the code's width or smaller, and use dark dots on a light background. The preview warns you when contrast is too low, the colors are inverted, or the logo is too large.
Rounded and "classy" dot styles keep a modern look while staying easy to scan. The small-circle "Dots" style scans well on its own but is the hardest to read with a center logo, so test it carefully.
For printing, download the SVG. It stays sharp at any size, from business cards to banners. As a rule of thumb, a code can be scanned from about ten times its width. More advice is in our guide to designing QR codes that always scan.
Frequently asked questions
Will my QR code still scan with a logo in the middle?
Yes. When you add a logo, the QR code switches to the highest error correction level, so up to about 30% of it can be covered and still scan. Keep the logo at 40% size or smaller, and always test it with your phone before printing.
Which colors scan best?
Dark dots on a light background with strong contrast. Light dots on a dark background ("inverted") don't work with some scanner apps. The preview warns you if your colors may be hard to scan.
Should I download PNG or SVG?
PNG works everywhere: social media, documents and websites. SVG is a vector format that stays sharp at any size, which makes it best for printing on banners, menus and business cards.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. These are static QR codes: the content is stored inside the code itself and doesn't depend on any server, so they keep working forever. To change the content, generate a new code.
